2010-2011 Student-Parent Handbook
(posted June
18, 2010)
Students
receive a student planner at the beginning of the year which contains the 2010-2011
Student-Parent Handbook (click here for a pdf copy—paper
copies available at school). The first page “Partnership Statement” needs
to be signed and returned to main office by Tuesday, August 24th,
the first day of school. Although
everyone is expected to read the entire handbook, below is a quick list of the
substantial changes to the handbook from last year if you are a returning
student or parent. The rationale for changes
in the handbook most often reflect policy catching up with practice or
restrictions made to safe guard students and property.
Page
9: Graduation Requirements: Increase in science requirement to
reflect practice of requiring Physical Science for Freshmen.
Page
10: Definition of Academic Grades: change
of NM-“No Mark” to NG-“No Grade”; addition of ANC “Attendance No Credit”
Page
11: Academic Regulations: Intro section addition of high school credits
(in some courses) accrued prior to entry into 9th are
noted on the transcript.
Page

courses appear on the transcript.
Page

process on how La Salle continues to view “concurrent courses” (courses taken
outside of La Salle during the school year like YVCC’s “Running Start” and YVTech).
Page
19: Gum: Addition of prohibition on gum (an example of
policy catching up to practice).
Page
20-21: Searches: Clarification of existing policy of
searching a student’s “possessions” by adding cell phones and electronics. Also addition of general cause for conducting
such a search (does not apply to any cell phone confiscation). See page 31 below.
Page
29: Dress Code Prohibitions: Clarification of “tattoo” to include
temporary and drawn ones.
Page
29-30: Outerwear: Addition of dress code clarity on the wearing
of appropriate outerwear.
Page
31: Cyberbullying/Sexting: Addition of information and response to
the use of technology, particularly through cell phones, as a tool of harassment.
See page 20-21 above.
Page 32-33: Dance Policies: Clarification on guest passes and simplification on identification at the door. Clarification of the restrictions on provocative dancing.
