2008-2009 Student-Parent Handbook

Students receive a student planner at the beginning of the year which contains the 2008-2009 Student-Parent Handbook (linked here as a pdf file).  Paper copies are available at school.  The first page “Partnership Statement” needs to be printed, signed and returned to main office by Wednesday, August 20th, the first day of school. 

 

 

Below is a quick list of the substantial changes to the handbook from last year if you are a returning student or parent.

 

Page 3: Confidentiality of Documents and Other Information:  addition of permission to use photos in advertising and publications of our Lasallian affiliates at De La Salle Institute in Napa.

 

Page 7:  Definition of Academic Grades:  a clarification of the “I” (Incomplete) mark

 

Page 8:  Definition of Citizen Marks:  a clarification of impact of “N” or “U” on honor roll status.

 

Page 8-9:  Academic Probation and Ineligibility: progress reports going home three times a semester (instead of 6 times a semester) and the impact on the length of time for probation and ineligibility. 

 

Page 8-9:  Introduction, Promotion and Graduation, Course Request Changes:  emphasis on “advance” permission to Dean of Studies for any course taken outside of La Salle and the addition of teacher/department chair approval for course changes.

 

Page 9:  PowerSchool:  a listing of common grade codes teachers use

 

Page 10: Graduation Awards: a listing of the special awards and honors given at the graduation ceremonies

 

Page 10: Semester Honor Roll & Academic Achievement Award:  addition of the academic improvement recognition given each semester.

 

Page 11: IQAcademy Students:  change in the wording and process for course sign up as a result of “Evergreen Internet Academy” changing to “IQAcademy

 

Page 12:  Failures in Good Order:  clarification of what “weapons” are

 

Page 13:  Particular Guidelines:  clarification that the ensuing guidelines (pp. 13-15), now in alphabetical order, are in addition or extension to the ones prior to it.

 

Page 16:  Absences:  a clarification of the impact of Type 2 (unexcused) absences on missed class work.

 

Page 17:  Accumulated Absences and Attendance Requirement for Credit:  clarification of the roll of the Deans of Academics and Students in determining credit.

 

Page 21:  The Dress Code—prohibited items:  clarification of footwear and addition of item 11 and 12.

 

Page 21:  Guidelines for appropriate dress and grooming:  clarification for appropriate girls, item 3 “skirts and dresses.”

 

Page 21: Professional Dress Day:  change in language from “Dress Up” to “Professional Dress.”

 

Page 23:  Harassment Policy:  changes in language and clarifications throughout the intro and definition of types of harassment, including text messaging and internet blogging as a type of “visual harassment”

 

Page 24:  Reporting:  addition of last item.

 

Page 28:  Financial Policy:  updates in all numbers and dates.

 

Page 28:  Financial Conditions:  addition of barring a student from semester exams and the potential impact of it if bills are not paid on time.

 

Page 28: Insurance:  clarification of primary and secondary insurance carriers.

 

Page 28:  Withdrawal/Adjustment of Tuition:  change in percents charged upon student withdrawal, suspension, dismissal.
